Education loans of more than Rs 12 cr disbursed

Tiruchirapally, Feb 10: Aiming the economic growth of the country and development of human resource potential, educational loans to the tune of Rs 12,106 crore have been disbursed for all the eligible higher education aspirants over the past two and half years, says Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

Laying the foundation stone for the 'Vidya Seva Ratnam K Santhanam Block' for Sri Jayendra Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Shrimati Indira Gandhi College here last night, the Finance Minister pointed out that in Tamil Nadu alone, Rs 825 crore was disbursed as educational loan during 2005-06, that had benefitted over 56,250 students.

He said all the banks had been instructed by the Centre to accord priority for the disbursal of educational loans.

The students, particularly girls must go for higher education and make their contribution in the overall development of the country.
