TN: Cycle tour to create environmental awareness

Chennai, Feb 10: Chennai youth and representatives from pollution-affected communities in State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) at Cuddalore and Mettur today left Tindivanam on a cycle tour to create awareness about environmental and human rights violations due to industrial pollution.

The team will cover a distance of 150 km and would reach Chennai tomorrow.

''We are undertaking this tour to appeal to the government to improve the environmental conditions in Cuddalore,'' said Rupesh Kumar, a member of the group.

The tour will also hold public meetings at Tindivanam, Chengalpattu and Kovalam to create awareness about the implications of industrial pollution.

The tour resumed from Tindivanam, where it was suspended in November last following a tragic incident that claimed the life of one of the group members.
