Kolkata, Feb 10(UNI) Terming the Chief Minister's repeated offer to the opposition for talks on land acquisition issue, as 'an attempt to hoodwink the general public', the SUCI today urged the people to remain watchful on the whole situation.

Issuing a statement a day after Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee had made clear his intention of sorting out all differences with the opposition parties across the table, SUCI General Secretary Prabhas Ghosh felt that following tremendous pressure created by the opposition on the forceful land acquisition policy, the government had no other option but to be on defensive and go a few steps backward.

Mr Ghosh was also highly critical about the state administration's decision to re-impose prohibitory orders under section 144 Cr PC at Singur to prevent people from opposing the govenment move.

But he said if the Chief Minister was indeed sincere in finding an amicable solution to the vexed issue through discussions, all lands taken forcefully from the farmers at Singur should be returned immediately.

He also demanded that all false charges against opposition party workers should be withdrawn immediately and ensure early release of all those arrested.

About their stand on industrialisation, Mr Ghosh said a policy framework could be drawn following intense negotiations with all opposition parties and arriving at a consensus.
