Scribe accused of torturing wife, granted anticipatory bail

Akola, Feb 9 (UNI) Additional Sessions Judge, Justice Shridhar Kulkarni has granted ad-interim anticipatory bail to a senior local scribe, Pravin Take, accused of torturing his former wife Mrs Seema Gawai.

The Judge has also directed the accused to remain present in Court during the final hearing of his anticipatory bail hearing on February 16.

''The accused should also co-operate with the police in their investigations by presenting himself at the respective police station from 14OO hrs to 16OO hrs on the day of final hearing,'' the Judge ruled yesterday.

Pravin Take has been accused of demanding Rs 2 lakhs from his estranged wife Seema Gawai, for granting her a divorce. Seema's current husband Anil Gawai, his father, mother and sister are also a co-accused in the case. However, they have not yet been arrested so far, police said.

Seema's counsel, Advocate Anil Pancholi rued the attitude of the police who refused to register a case of extortion against Pravin.

''This matter merits the attention of the National Human Rights Commission and the National Council for Women,'' he stressed.

Meanwhile, Seema's husband, Anil Gawai and her in-laws are absconding, police today said.
