Chennai, Feb 9 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder leader Dr S Ramadoss today urged the Tamil Nadu government to convene an all party meeting and elicit the views of leaders of political parties, before filing a review petition with the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

Welcoming Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's remarks that the government would bring to the Tribunal's notice shortcomings in the final award, he said the state government should first explain to all party leaders the benefits and shortcomings in the final award, before moving the tribunal.

'It is the duty of the state government to explain in detail to leaders of all parties, the favourable and unfavourable, benefits and shortcomings in the award, concerning Tamil Nadu,' he said.

In Karnataka, Chief Minister H D Kumarasamy had said leaders of all political parties would be given copies of the Tribunal award and after they went through the report, he would convene an all party meeting to get their views and decide further course of action.

In Tamil Nadu, if not for leaders of all political parties, the state government could make available full details of the final award, at least to recognised political parties, which would help avoid leaders airing conflicting views on the issue, he suggested.

Referring to Mr Karunanidhi's remark that he himself had initially thought Tamil Nadu would get 419 tmc ft of water, but only after going through the detailed order, realised it was much less, the PMK leader said the Chief Minister could get to know the correct position because he was in a position to go through the full report.
