Punishment awarded to personnel for HR violations

Jammu, Feb 9 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Government today informed the Legislative Assembly that all cases of custodial killings and violation of human rights will be investigated and security personnel responsible-identified and punished appropriately.

In reply to a question during Question Hour, Minister for CAPD. Taj Mohi-ud-Din informed the house that the coalition government in its common minimum programme had promised to investigate all cases of custodial killings and human rights violation.

''Punishment has been awarded to the delinquent police and other Security force officers for such acts. As many as 47 Armymen, including one Lt Colonel, one 2nd Lt, 10 Majors, four Captains, have been awarded rigorous imprisonment ranging from three months to 10 years,'' he informed.

He said of the 140 police personnel involved in human rights violation, one dy sp has been dismissed from service in addition to registration of three cases, one SI and one ASI have also been dismissed from services.

Mr Taj said from 1990 to June 2006 79 security personnel, including one DIG, one commandant, one Dy commandant and four assistant Commandant of BSF have been awarded rigorous imprisonment from three months up to 10 years in Civil Jail.
