Orders reserved by 3rd judge on Chennai civic polls

Chennai, Feb 9 (UNI) A third judge of Madras High Court, who heard the controversial Chennai civic poll case, after a split verdict by a Bench, today reserved orders.

Justice P K Misra, nominated as the third judge reserved orders on a batch of petitions from AIADMK MLA D Jeyakumar and others, seeking to set aside the October 13 civic polls and order repoll in all 155 wards.

He heard lengthy arguments from both sides.

Earlier, a Division Bench comprising Justice S J Mukopadhya and Justice F M Ibraim Kalifullah delivered a split verdict. While the former dismissed all the petitions, the latter ordered a repoll in 99 wards. The matter was referred to the Chief Justice for placing it before a third judge for a fresh hearing.

Accordingly, Justice P K Misra was nominated the third judge.
