Bangalore, Feb 9 (UNI) The Opposition Congress, sticking to their demand for election to the Council Chairman post, continued their agitation forcing the Chair to adjourn the proceedings to Monday without transacting any business today.

As soon as the house rose for the day, Congress members alleged that appointment of Janata Dal (Secular) member N Tippanna as officiating Chairman was illegal and election should be held to fill the post.

Mr Mukyamantri Chandru (BJP) and Mr Chickmadu (JD-S), who had come with placards condemning the injustice done to Karnataka by the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT) demanded immediate discussion on the issue. However, Congress members were not willing to allow discussion unless elections were announced for Chairman post and raised slogans against the State Government.

The House plunged into chaos and nothing could be heard in the din while Mr Tippanna who was on the chair adjourned the house to Monday after making a vain bid to bring order in the house.
