Observe strike on Sunday, Kashmir belongs to us: Geelani

Srinagar, Feb 9 (UNI) Appealing to people to observe a strike on Sunday, chairman of the breakway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani today said India and Pakistan cannot thrust any solution to the Kashmir issue on the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a public meeting at Behama chowk in Ganderbal after the Friday prayers, Mr Geelani appealed to people to observe a shutdown on February 11 to remember the founder of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, who was hanged till death in Delhi's Tihar jail on the same day in 1984.

JKLF, other faction of the Hurriyat Conference, and other separatist organisations have also given a strike call for Sunday.

He said Jammu and Kashmir is not part of Pakistan or India but belongs to its people who have the right to decide their future.

Mr Geelani said any solution thrusted by India and Pakistan will not be acceptable to the people of the state.

About the change in Pakistan's Kashmir policy, he said about 99 per cent people of the Pakistan support the cause of Kashmiris.

The people of Pakistan have rejected the Pakistani government's new options on Kashmir, he said.

The Hurriyat chairman said implementation of the United Nations resolution on Kashmir could be the basis for finding a lasting solution to the issue.
