Militant plans to trigger blasts with mobile phone foiled in kashmir
Srinagar, Feb 9 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police today foiled militant plans to trigger 23 Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasts through mobile phones on the Srinagar-Jammu highway when they arrested a top commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen alongwith two other militants.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Awantipora, Sardar Khan said they achieved a major success today when they arrested Tariq Hussain Bagwwan, a HM District Commander, a resident of Doda, at Awantipora on the Kashmir highway.
He said the two other HM militants were identified as Muzaffar Hussain Ahaner and Mohammad Ashraf Parray, residents of Jammu region.
He said a black Bolero bearing number JK02U 8155, in which the militants were travelling, has been seized.
Mr Khan said explosive material enough to make 23 IEDs was recovered from the vehicle.
He said the IEDs could have been triggered with the help of mobile phones to target security forces and other VIPs on the highway and other parts of the south Kashmir.
The other recoveries include three wireless sets,1000 rounds of AK, mobile IED receiver (normal), five cassettes-IED receiver (normal), receiver bulb type (normal) 17 and a mobile phone.
Security forces averted a major tragedy when they detected a live grenade near a school at Boniyar in Uri today. a Bomb disposal squad was immediately summoned who later defused it without causing any damage.
