Man sets himself on fire near Amarinder's residence

Patiala, Feb 9 (UNI) An unidentified youth today died after setting himself on fire at NIS chowk here, near the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.

Eyewitnesses said they saw a man, about 25 years-old, engulfed with flames near the NIS chowk at around 1500 hrs and they rueshed to douse the flame.

The man was rushed to Rajindra Hospital where he died. He sustained 100 per cent burn injuries, doctors said.

When contacted, DSP, Patiala City Jagmohan Singh, incharge of the area said he was ignorant about the incident.

So far, the identity and reason behind the man taking such an extreme step is not known.

Last year on January 24, a local Congress leader Gopal Krishan Kashyap died after he set himself on fire here to protest the local authorities' removal of roadside vendors without providing any rehabilitation.
