Lecturers threaten to resume stir in Puducherry

Puducherry, Feb 9 (UNI) Lecturers of the government higher secondary school here today threatened to resume their agitation from April 15, if the government failed to honour its promises by then.

Lecturers Association preidsent S K Subramanian told newspersons here that the government had assured to provide 20 per cent reservation to them while filling the post of Vice-Principals and higher secondary school headmasters before April 15.

The government had also agreed to grant them gazetted status and in respect of implementing ACP, the pattern in Delhi would be studied after which it would be considered. Following the assurance, the lecturers had called off their stir on February seven and took steps for holding special classes for the Plus-Two students and to conduct practical examinations on Saturdays and Sundays in order to complete the study portions in time, he pointed out.

The association had urged the administration to ensure that the admissions to government schools takes place along with admissions to private schools to prevent bright students from joining private schools and students with less marks in government schools, he added.
