Hema becomes crowdpuller for SAD-BJP
Ludhiana, Feb 9 (UNI) Popular actor and BJP MP Hema Malini drew crowds here today as she sought votes for the SAD-BJP alliance in the February 13 assembly polls.
''Vote for those who can bring development to the state and the SAD-BJP alliance the right choice for this,'' the actress exhorted the voters at a rally in Ludhiana East constituency.
The NDA regime saw many development projects being implemented in the country but just five-year tenure was hardly sufficient to ''undo the damage caused by the five-decades of Congress misrule,'' she said.
Even in Punjab, the ''achievements'' of the Amarinder Singh-led Congress Government were corruption, power-crisis, price-hike, agri-crisis, industrial slow-down, the BJP star campaigner said.
''From being the number one state with the highest per capita income, Punjab has slid to being a state where the farmers, the back-bone of the economy, are forced to commit suicide.'' ''Make Badal saab the Chief Minister, if you want the state to make a turnaround for your own good,'' she urged the crowds, adding that she had a special place in her heart for Punjab and Punjabis.
The crowds waited for over two hours for the actor and there was mild commotion as Ms Hema Malini attired in a maroon salwar-kamiz, the state's traditional dress, arrived at the venue.
The police resorted to a mild lathicharge to control the surging crowd.
