Congress claims credit for Delhi Master Plan

New Delhi, Feb 9 (UNI) The Congress Party today welcomed the Delhi Master Plan-2021 notified by the government on Wednesday, and said the credit should go to the party for finding a "unique solution" to the problems being faced by the people of the metropolis living in unauthorised colonies besides small traders.

AICC Spokesman Abishek Manu Singhvi told mediapersons that the Master Plan was a document of many novel features. It sought to provide relief in big measures to traders and residents.

While blaming the successive BJP governments at the Centre and in Delhi for shedding only crocodile tears, he said the document was the result of a sincere effort of the Congress and the ruling UPA.

"It is a balanced document...it is a highly popular document without being populist," he said, adding that the "Congress had seen the brunt and weathered the storm and came out with a concrete solution...It is uniquely a Congress solution." This solution evaded the successive BJP governments in Delhi and at Centre, he asserted.

Highlighting the salient features of the Master Plan, Dr Singhvi said it sought to provide relief to 95 per cent of both residents and traders. It would benefit nearly 500,000 small traders.

He said vertical growth in the city has been potentially unleashed in a big way by the Master Plan. A highlight of the document was that it sought to change the monopoly of land by the DDA.

Dr Singhvi said the document would clearly demonstrate that the Congress Party had stood by the people.
