Cong candidate's brother surrenders

Amritsar, Feb 9 (UNI) Rajan, the brother of Jasbir Singh Dimpa, Congress candidate from the Beas assembly constituency and prime accused in the murder of an Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) worker, surrendered before the Punjab police here tonight.

Rajan surrendered before SP, Maninder Singh, head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that probed the murder. Rajan will be produced before a judicial magistrate tomorrow. The Akali worker was killed on January 29 following a clash between Congress and SAD workers in the Beas constituency.

Election Commission has already postponed the polling in Beas from Febuary 13 to March 11 due to security reasons. The Commission had yesterday pUlled up the Punjab government and the police for failing to arrest Rajan and also for not providing a peaceful atmosphere for the a free and fair poll in Beas.

Meanwhile, Balkar Singh, a Congress activist and member of the Rayya Block Samiti, was arrested by the police in the same murder case. In all, 16 persons have been named in the FIR registered in the murder case in Beas police station. The SIT had so far arrested five persons including three gunmen of Dimpa in the case.
