BSE Sensex crashes by 13.09 pts, falls below 14600 mark

Mumbai, Feb 9 (UNI) Profit booking halted the record breaking streak of the Sensex as it tumbled today by 113.09 points to close at 14,538.90 on the Bombay Stock Exchange on profit booking across the board, after surpassing the new high of 14,723 during intra-day trading.

Bajaj Auto was among the few counters that emerged gainers in an otherwise bearish mood that was seen prevailing towards the end of the day.

The S&P Cnx Nifty Index of the National Stock Exchange too declined sharply by 36 points to close at 4187.40 points from the previous close of 4223.40 points.

The 30-stock Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) opened on a firm note at 14684.35 points. it touched a new life time high of 14723.88 points. The benchmark index fell sharply by over 230 points from the day's high to touch the day's low of 14493.67 points. It closed below the 14600 mark at 14538.90 points, showing a net loss of 113.09 points from the previous close of 14652.09 points.

The market once again sidelined the firm trend in the Asian stock markets and ended lower despite firm closing at the Tokyo exchange.

The possible split in Bajaj Auto only was the trigger point for the counter, which posted an handsome gain on sustained buying support in an otherwise falling market.

Metals, Consumer Goods, Banking and Automobiles were worst sufferers today.
