Vinay Katiyar arrested with supporters

Ghazipur, Feb 8 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and national general secretary Vinay Katiyar was today arrested along with hundreds of supporters, while proceeding to Gorakhpur as part of his 'parivartan yatra'.

ASP M M Beg said Katiyar was arrested at Matehu on the Ghazipur-Mau border, about 40 km from the district headquarters here this evening along with his supporters.

The police had already barricaded the area in apprehension of his yatra. DMs and SPs of both Ghazipur and Mau district were also present there.

The officials first tried to persuade Katiyar against going to Gorakhpur over the fluid condition following the recent communal violence and curfew imposed in the district.

When they refused to relent, the BJP leaders were arrested on charges of disturbing peace in the area.
