Vice chairman of Awami League killed, wife, PSO wounded in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 8 (UNI) Unidentified militants today shot dead Awami League (AL) Vice chairman Mohammad Yousuf while his wife and Personnel Security Officer (PSO) was wounded in the attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

Official sources said militants opened fire at the vehicle of Mr Dar at Hajan, about 35 km from here. The Awami League is a political organisation formed by surrendered militants.

They said Dar, a senior counter insurgent leader, was killed on the spot while his wife and PSO were injured.

The injured were admitted to a hospital, they said.

The Awami League was formed by Mohammad Yousuf Parray, alias Kuka Parray in the Kashmir valley in 1995.

Mr Parray, who was elected to state assembly, was killed by militants in Sumbal area some five years back.

Parray had earlier formed ''Ikhwan'', a group of surrendered militants who were working with the security forces during counter insurgency operations in the valley.
