Vehicle movement on Bangalore-Mysore hit for fourth day

Mysore, Feb 8 (UNI) Vehicular movement on the Mysore-Bangalore State Highway was affected for the fourth day following demonstrations by farmers in the Cauvery basin districts today in protest against the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal's (CWDT) final order.

At Boddanur village in Mandya District, farmers, including women, cooked food on the Highway and did not allow movement of vehicles.

Earlier, the State Road Transport Corporation, which had started service, withdrew its fleet following the protests. Some Kannada organisation have also joined the agitation.

Meanwhile, the Cauvery Hitarakshana Horata Samithi, which is spear heading the agitation, has decided to begin a relay hunger strike from tomorrow.

School and college students boycotted their class in Mandya, took out processions and forced closure of both State and Central government offices.

In Mysore, students boycotted class and formed human chain at K R circle and staged demonstration.

In the Chamarajanagara district, members of various Kannada organisations took out funeral procession of CWDT effigy.

However, no untoward incident was reported from any part of this Cauvery basin districts so far.

Police continued to maintain vigil in Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS), Kabini and Harangi dams.
