Securitymen foil NLFT's attempt

Agartala, Feb 8 (UNI) Security forces foiled an attempt by the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) guerrillas to attack a ruling CPI(M) MLA and a few police personnel at Tripura's west district.

According to police, the 10th Battalion of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and the District Task Force (DTF) were escorting Asharambari (ST) constituency CPI(M) MLA Sachindra Debbarma yesterday when a group of armed NLFT rebels fired from inside a jungle.

The escorting party, which was the main target of the militants, immediately retaliated forcing the rebels to flee the spot.

The MLA was on his way to attend a programme at a nearby school, the police said.

However, no casualty was reported in the incident, they said, adding, operations had been launched to nab the guerrillas.
