SC transfers Madhumita case to Dehra Dun Court
New Delhi, Feb 8: In a major set back to former Uttar Pradesh Minister Amarmani Tripathi, an accused in the Madhumita Shukla murder case, the Supreme Court today transferred the trial of the case from Lucknow Sessions Court to a competent Court of equal jurisdiction at Dehra Dun in Uttarakhand.
The transfer in the case was ordered by a bench of Justices Ashok Bhan and Dalveer Bhandari, while allowing an application by Nidhi Shukla, sister of the slain Hindi poetess and her mother, seeking transfer of the case outside the state for fair and speedy trial.
They had sought transfer of the case alleging that Amarmani Tripathi, who was minister in the Mulayam Singh government, was having political clout in the state and could influence the decision of the Court.
The Supreme Court also directed the Dehra Dun Court to conduct the trial on day to day basis so that the case could be concluded maximum within 6 months.
