Kolkata, Feb 08 (UNI) NASSCOM, the premier trade body in India, and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) today announced that they will conduct a joint study titled "Developing an Innovation Ecosystem in the Indian IT Industry".

The study is aimed at addressing some gaps existing in the Indian ecosystem for making innovation flourish and realise its true potential.

A series of workshops and roundtables involving stakeholders were conducted during the course of the study to iterate findings and take inputs from various stakeholders before publishing the final set of recommendations.

Emphasising the need for innovation eco-system, NASSCOM President Kiran Karnik said, ''Innovation has become a key focus for the Indian IT industry. Innovation needs an enabling environment at the national, regional and industry levels.'' The NASSCOM-BCG initiative would seek to provide linkages among the various innovation stakeholders including inventors, Venture Capitalists, patent experts, entrepreneurs, firms, academia and researchers to encourage typical innovation ecosystem.

Survival in today's intensely dynamic and competitive business environment is no longer about quality products and solutions at an affordable price, a Nasscom release said.

''Innovation does not have anything to do with technology.

Instead, it is about understanding untapped user needs that should be addressed through products and solutions in an indegenous and innovative manner,'' it said.

Talking about the study, BCG India Arun Maira said, "India promises more opportunities for innovative technology firms, both Indian and international, than any other country perhaps. On one hand, there is a huge market in India's billion plus population for many products and services.

IT industries in India can tap into enormous talent and India has depth in many industries-healthcare, pharmaceutical, education, telecom etc, Mr Karnik added.

The study would involve both primary and secondary research.

The primary research would involve a cross-section of the Indian IT industry representing IT services, BPO and Product firms.
