MPHRC urges release of terminally-ill inmates
Bhopal, Feb 8 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission today urged the state government to form a high-level committee and draft a policy for releasing those jail inmates afflicted by terminal illnesses.
Commission Chairman D M Dharmadhikari and Member Narayan Singh Azad made the suggestion during a hearing on an inquiry that went into the causes leading to the death of a prisoner in a jail at the cantonment town Jabalpur. A medical board earlier certified that he was suffering from a terminal illness.
In its ruling on the Jabalpur case, the commission said that critical inmates and aged ones ought to be provided an opportunity to reside with their families.
