MP bypolls: BJP to steer clear of tainted persons

Bhopal, Feb 8 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party's Madhya Pradesh unit President Narendra Singh Tomar today said that ''tainted'' persons would not be given tickets for next month's bypolls to two Lok Sabha and one assembly constituency.

''The names of retired members will not be reconsidered. A state election committee will soon be formed for constituting a candidates' panel that will be forwarded to the parliamentary board,'' he told journalists here.

The Election Commission has announced March 8 as the polling date for Sidhi and Gwalior Lok Sabha seats and the Udaypura vidhan sabha constituency. Sidhi MP C P Singh Thakur and his Gwalior counterpart Ram Sewak were expelled from parliament after being found guilty in the cash-for-query scam while Udaypura MLA Rampal Singh resigned after being elected to the Lok Sabha from Vidisha.
