Minister's resignation sought for remarks against court
Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 8 (UNI) The Opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala today demanded the resignation of Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammedkutty in the wake of the Kerala High Court serving notice on him for contempt of court for his remarks against the judiciary.
''Mr Muhammedkutty violated the oath of office and it is a grave offence on the part of a Minister to have made such a statement against the judiciary,'' Opposition Leader in the Assembly Oommen Chandy told a press conference here.
Stressing it was an organised attempt by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to ''mar the credibility of the judiciary,'' he said this was not suited in a democratic system.
He also alleged the Left Front indulged in attacking the judiciary to save its face from its own inability to govern the state efficiently.
The Left Governments in the past, which had always blamed the Centre for price hike and other things, had nothing to protest against the present United Progressive Alliance (UPA) at the Centre and because of this, they now turned against the judiciary, he claimed.
He also said it was not fair for the CPI (M) to oppose verdicts which were against them and welcome those in their favour.
