Local Congress calls for dawn to dusk bandh today

Barrackpore, Feb 08 (UNI) The local Congress workers have called for a dawn to dusk bandh today at Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas against state government's land acquisition in the name of industrialisation.

The party members have alleged that vast farmland would be destroyed in the process.They have also alleged regarding the goverments inability to reopen the jute mills here, where thousands of workers were on strike since January five.

All the shops, educational institutions and local banks were closed, a police source said.

About 18 jute mills in Barrackpore were closed due to strike called by the Joint Action Committee of different trade unions against the private mill owners to meet the demands of the workers according to the tri-partite agreements.
