J&K SRTC Inspector arrested white accepting bribe
Srinagar, Feb 8 (UNI) An official of the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transprot Corporation (SRTC) was arrested red-handed while accepting bribe today, a Vigilance Organisation spokesman said.
He said one Shafat Ahmed Dar had lodged a written complaint with Police Station Vigilance Organisation, Kashmir, that his car had met with an accident and a case was registered in Police Station Saddar Srinagar.
In the course of investigation, the police referred the accidental vehicle for mechanical checkup to SRTC, Srinagar.
The complainant deposited the statutory inspection fee of Rs 500 with the SRTC for obtaining the mechanical checkup report.
However, the accused Abdul Majeed Shah, Inspector Mechanical SRTC, Srinagar, was demanding an illegal gratification of Rs 700 for issuing the report.
A trap was laid today and Shah was arrested while accepting Rs 600 as bribe near a hotel in the city.
The money was recovered from his possession.
Shah has been taken into custody for further investigation.
