Dubai, Feb 8: Call centres handling Kuwait's Jazeera Airways experienced a meltdown when thousands of customers flooded it with calls for booking its cheap flights to Indian and other destinations.

Operators and online technicians working for Jazeera Airways reported their lines jammed with calls following the announcement on Tuesday that one million seats would be up for grabs for just Dh48.

Sales hit the roof as customers got wind of the offer of flights from March 1 to October 27.

Customers also said they were not able to log into the airline's website as it was experiencing heavy traffic.

The airline was given the go-ahead by the Dubai Government yesterday to create its second hub in Emirate. It has become the only low-budget airline operating from Dubai International Airport.

Flights from Dubai will start operating from today, with three flights a week to Bahrain and flights to Kuwait City, Muscat, Salalah, Mumbai, Kochi and New Delhi will start from March 27.

Nearly all of the Dh48 tickets to India are booked up to July.
