IT collection going on well in districts

Tirupati, Feb 8 (UNI) Tax collections in Kadapa, Anantapur and Chittoor districts were going on quite well and Rs 100 crore was collected from 1.15 lakh tax payers upto end of December, 2006, Income Tax Commissioner A Bhaskara Reddy said today.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Reddy said the target amount of 130 crore would be reached by March 31, 2007.

Referring to duplicate filings for Permanent Account Number (PAN), he said the process was going on to find out duplicate PANs.

He said the department would take stern action against those who avoided tax, including brokers, commission agents and developers.

Those who had not paid tax for six years do so without penality and their returns would be regularised.

To create awareness and update companies regarding various TDS provisions, a one-day conference on 'tax deduction at source (TDS)' was being organised on Feb 9. It would be inaugurated by Chief Commissioner of Income Tax M Narasimhappa.
