JKLF chief's hunger strike enters final day
Srinagar, Feb 8: The three-day hunger strike started by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik in protest against the killing of innocent Kashmiris in fake encounters, entered its final day today.
Mr Malik, looking very weak was sitting in a tent erected on the main road near the JKLF headquarters at Maisuma near here. A number of other JKLF leaders also joied him in today's hunger strike.
JKLF chief started the three-day fast on February 6, in protest against the killing of four innocent civilians by the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police in fake encounters and later buried them after labelling them as ''terrorists''.
Mr Malik, a heart patient, has threatened to start fast unto death if all Human Rights violations were not stopped immediately.
The Jammu and Kashmir government ordered a judicial inquiry into the fake encounter cases following massive protests across the valley. The issue was also discussed in the State Assembly and Council where the Opposition demanded action against the SOG personnel.
It was after the killing of one Abdul Rehman Paddar by the special police team of the state police that the three other fake encounter cases were unearthed.
