HC rejects Sarpanches Association's plea

Hyderabad, Feb 8 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh High Court today rejected the plea of the Andhra Pradesh State Sarpanches Association seeking inclusion in the Electoral College for the election of members to the AP Legislative Council from the constituency of Panchayatraj institutions.

The Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice G S Singhvi and Justice C V Nagarjuna Reddy, while dismissing the writ petition filed by Association President Y Rajendra Prasad observed that no discrimination had been meted out to the Sarpanches and their exclusion was not contrary to the spirit of 73rd Constitutional Amendment.
