4 killed, 14 seriously injured in road accident

Kancheepuram, Feb 8: Four people were killed, including two women and 32 others injured, 14 of them seriously, in a road accident on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway in Dhamal near here early this morning.

The deceased were identified as Subramany (25), Sekhar (32), Prema (38) and Selvi (35), all labourers in a private firm at Sriperumbudur, police said.

The accident occurred when a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Bus, proceeding from Salem to Chennai, collided with a stationary LPG-laden mini-lorry in Dhamal near Ponniamman Pattarai here. The impact of the collision was such that the lorry overturned, killing three occupants on the spot.

The injured were rushed to the Kancheepuram Government Hospital.

However, one of them succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

The seriously injured people were shifted to Chennai Government Hospital, police added.
