Five-member family commits suicide in city

Chennai, Feb 8 (UNI) A man administered poison to his wife and three teenaged daughters and later committed suicide by hanging last night, police said.

The incident came to light this morning when police acting on a specific information, broke open the carpenter's house and removed the bodies.

The deceased were identified as Velayudham, his wife Eswari and daughters Vijayalakshmi (19), Shobana (17) and Suganya (14).

Mounting debts had forced the family to take the extreme step, the police, quoting preliminary investigations, told UNI.

There were also marks of strangulation on the bodies of Velayudham's, daughters, they said.
