Council endorse resolution against fixing water meters
Vijayawada, Feb 8(UNI) The council meeting of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation today once again endorsed the resolution passed last year against fixing water meters on domestic tap connections in the city.
As soon as the meeting began, CPI corporator Gowtham Reddy, raising the issue said meters should not be fixed on water taps.
Supported by CPI(M) corporators, Mr Reddy demanded that Mayor Mallika Begum give a statement on it.
Initiating the discussion, Mr Reddy said he was dissatisfied with the statement made by Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration Minister Koneru Ranga Rao, a few days ago, who supported the government's move to fix water meters.
He also criticised the stand taken by Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner Natrajan Gulzar for calling tenders to privatise the headworks in the city.
The TDP corporators also sought a statement from the Mayor.
While local MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, present in the council meeting strongly supported the government's move to fix water meters, Vijayawada East Congress legislator Vangaveeti Radhakrishna opposed it.
Later, the meeting directed the officials not to go ahead with fixing of water meters.
