Condition for protests: Notice issued to K'taka Govt
Bangalore, Feb 8 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today issued notice to the State Government on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), seeking for a direction to the Government to impose a condition on those seeking permission to hold processions and bandhs that they should pay for any loss to public/private property during such events.
Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice B S Patil admitted the PIL, filed by well known writer Dr K Marulasiddappa, Journalist Shoodra Srinivas and Jana Spandana Seva Samsthe of Bangalore, and issued the notice.
The petitioners sought the framing of guidelines for consideration of applications for such events to maintain public tranquility and prevent communal disharmony. They also prayed for a direction to the government to hold an inquiry into the January 22 violence in which a 12-year-old boy lost his life, and pay compensation to all the victims.
The petitioners have impleaded in their petition major parties like the Congress, JD(S), BJP, Samajwadi Party, CPI and CPI(M), besides Sri Guruji Janmashtamanotsava Samithi, Karnataka.
