CM dismisses Jaya'c charges on police officer as imaginary
Chennai, Feb 8 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today dismissed as 'imaginary' leader of opposition J Jayalalithaa's charge that Md Shakeel Akhter, IPS, who served as Personal Secretary to Union Minister of State for Home S Regupathy, had leaked information concerning national security.
Reacting to her charge that the country's intelligence agency RAW had unraveled the official's involvement in leaking information to various foreign embassies, Mr Karunanidhi said the state government had no information from RAW so far on this issue.
''The state government has not received any adverse report about the official either from the Centre or from RAW,'' Mr Karunanidhi told newspersons, adding that only after inquiring with the Centre, Mr Akhter was appointed DIG, Kancheepuram range after his repatriation to Tamil Nadu cadre.
An official, who served as Personal Assistant or Secretary of a Minister, could be relieved of the post anytime with the consent of the Centre and state governments and there was nothing fishy in Mr Akhter coming back to the state cadre, Mr Karunanidhi clarified.
