1,200 Memory Cards seized at Mumbai airport

Mumbai, Feb 8 (UNI) Customs officials have seized 1,200 Memory Cards, valued at Rs 22.77 lakh, from an Indian national at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport here.

Joint Commissioner of Customs (Air Intelligence Unit) Mr Satish Kumar here today said in a statement that the AIU unit had recently intercepted one Indian Passport holder on suspicion on his arrival from Bangkok.

The statement said he was proceeding towards the exit gate after abandoning his baggage in the arrival hall. On being questioned about his baggage, he subsequently identified and claimed it at the conveyor.

During interrogation, he admitted he had not declared the memory cards.

AIU sleuths have arrested him on charges of non declaration, possession, knowledge and carriage of seized memory cards under provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, Mr Kumar added.
