Mandya, Karnataka, Feb 7 (UNI) Cauvery Hitarakshana Horatta Samiti, spearheading the Cauvery water agitation in Karnataka, today decided to appeal to the State Government to file a review petition before the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal against the final award pronounced by it on February five.

Holding that the award was not satisfactory to the farmers of the Cauvery basin districts of Karnataka, the Samiti, which met here, sought the State Government to move for amending the Inter-State (Water) Dispute Act.

The Samiti members would resort to a hunger strike in Mandya city and the taluk headquarters from 1000 hrs to 1700 hrs from February nine. Besides, the Samiti decided to issue handbills to the villagers to create an awareness about the decades-long water row and the final award.

The meeting, chaired by Samiti President G Made Gowda, appealed to the agitators to maintain peace and harmony.

Meanwhile, road blockades were put up in Mandya, Hallebudanur and Chikkamandya, disrupting traffic for some time. Bandh was observed in Maddur.
