CPI, PMK will be allotted one post each: Rangasamy
Puducherry, Feb 7: The Communist Party of India and the Pattali Makkal Katchi would be allotted one post each of the nominated legislators here in the next few days, Chief Minister N Rangasamy announced here last night.
Speaking at a function to mark the launching of the Puducherry edition of ''Jana Sakthi'', the party organ of CPI, after receiving the first copy released by CPI Tamil Nadu secretary Pandian, Mr Rangasamy said he would meet Lt Governor Mukut Mithi after he returned from New Delhi, to apprise him of the decision to appoint the nominated members to the territorial assembly.
The Chief Minister claimed that it was a fullfilment of the promises given to these parties, allies of the ruling Congress before the last assembly elections.
Mr Rangasamy requested the leaders of CPI and the PMK to recommend the names of the respective party candidates. (The Union Territory Government's Act 1963, has a provision of appointment of nominated members to the assembly. The Lt Governor would forward the names to the Union Home Ministry for its approval).
Stating that a statue of the socialist leader and founder of Janasakthi Jeevanandam would be erected on the Vazhuthavur road here, Mr Rangasamy said Union Commuication Minister Dayanidhi Maran was requested to bring out a postal stamp in commemmoration of the vetran freedom fighter and former Puducherry Health Minister late V Subbiah.
