CPI demands revival of sick industrial units in Punjab

Chandigarh, Feb 7 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) demanded more investment in the agriculture sector, revival of sick industrial units and better water management in its party manifesto for the February 13 Assembly elections in Punjab.

While releasing the manifesto here today, party's Punjab unit secretary Joginder Dayal told mediapersons that more investments should be made to improve the per hectare agriculture production and demanded revival of nearly 80,000 sick industrial units to solve the problem of unemployment in the state.

He stressed the need for better management of water to suffice irrigation needs across the state. He also demanded early completion of pending irrigation projects and better network and cleaning of rivers.

To enhance industrialisation in the state, Mr Dayal demanded a special industrial package on the pattern of hill states and setting up of agri-based industries, which would not only help farmers but also benefit unemployed youths, he added.

He demanded more funds, for free education upto class tenth, and stressed the need for more powers and funds for panchayats in the state.

He said issues like the transfer of Chandigarh and ''Punjabi speaking areas'' to Punjab should not be kept pending for long.
