Court issues summons to Shekhar Suman in cheque bounce case

Kaithal, Feb 7 (UNI) A local court has issued summons to famous TV anchor and artiste Shekhar Suman along with three others to appear on April 17 in connection with a cheque-bounce case.

The summons were issued following a plea under section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act by Arun Jain, owner of a boutique here against Growell Trade India Ltd, Mumbai and its Chairman Shekhar Suman, MD Akash Bhardwaj and Director, Sukhwant Singh Kalsi.

The complainant has alleged that he became a member of this company on pursuance by respondents through a brochure which offered various lucarative schemes to earn good income.

According to the petitioner, when he promoted the business of the company and enrolled numbers of other persons to become members of this company, he became entitled to receive commission.

The accused issued cheque no 35842 dated May 20, 2004 for Rs 1,00,000 and cheque no 35843 dated June 2, 2004 for Rs 32,790, drawn at ICICI Bank Meera Road branch, Thane in Maharashtra.

However, the cheques were dishonoured with remarks of ''payment stopped by drawer'', the complainant said, alleging that when his several attempts to contact the accused failed, he sent a notice to them.

In response, the advocate of defendants sent a reply which however, failed to satisfy the petitioner who, aggrieved by the non-payment of the commission for which the cheques were issued and later dishonoured, moved the local court.
