Congress, NCP win 4 each in civic body chief's polls in Vidarbha

Nagpur, Feb 7 (UNI) The Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won at four places each in elections for the post of President held in nine municipal councils in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra today.

The BJP and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) grabbed one apiece, while one post of president went to an independent.

Congress candidates were elected President of the municipal councils at Umrer, Ramtek, Kamptee (all district Nagpur) and Gondia, while NCP candidates did so in Kalameshwar, Mohpa, Narkhed (all district Nagpur) and Tirora (district Gondia). The BJP won in Khapa and an independent in Saoner (both district Nagpur), according to an official release here today.

In Gondia, the Congress candidate Savita Shashi Isarkar was elected President while BJP candidate Bhagatram Gopaldas Thakrani was elected his deputy. Similarly, in Khapa, Himraj Balaji Mehar of the BJP was elected President and Rajendra Natthu Burade of the NCP his deputy.

The other municipal council presidents/vice presidents elected today are: Umrer - Gangadhar Revatkar (Congress)/Gopal Dhanvijay (Bahujan Samaj Party), Ramtek - Shobha Raut (Congress)/Mahendra Takkamore (NCP), Kamptee - Abdul Shakun Usmangani/Savita Manoj Sharma (both Congress), Kalameshwar - Fatte Singh Maradwar (NCP)/Lalita Bhagwat (Congress), Mohpa - Durga Waman Ganorkar/Sagar Raghunath Kawutkar (both NCP), Narkhed - Anil Gajbe (NCP)/Hemalata Tekade (Independent), Katol - Bhojraj Damu Bagde/Charansingh Babulal Thakur (both RJD), Saoner - Arvind Tularam Lodhi/Ujwal Wasudeo Bagde (both Independent), all district Nagpur, and Tirora - Naresh Shankar Kumbhare(NCP)/Shekhar Kashinath Meshram (Independent), district Gondia.
