BSE Sensex up by 164.95 pts, closes at new high
Mumbai, Feb 7: Continuing with its record-breaking spree, the Sensex today zoomed to a new high of 14,643.13 on the Bombay Stock Exchange, registering an handsome gain of 164.95 points on renewed buying across the board from foreign institutional investors (FII's) as well as domestic investors.
The S&P Cnx Nifty index at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too touched a new high of 4224.25 points, posting smart gains of 28.35 points.
Reflecting the bullish trend, the 30-stock BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex) opened at 14493.56 points, fell to the day's low of 14478.45 points during the course of trading. It touched a high of 14663.26 points during intra-day trade, and lost partially from the highest level to close at the new all time high of 14,643.13 points, showing a net gain of 164.94 points from the previous close of 14478.19 points.
Auto sector shares were front runners in today's rally followed by Banking, Consumer Goods, IT, Metal, PSU and Tech while Cement, FMCG, Communication, Oil emerged losers on selling pressure, dealers said.
Total turnover on BSE and NSE combine stood at Rs 16440 crore, comprising of Rs 10,333 crore (NSE) and Rs 6107 crore (BSE), higher by Rs 1811 crore from yesterday's turnover of Rs 14629 crore.
