New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today asked the Delhi Government to specify the date for notification of delimitation of the constituencies for conducting the Municipal elections, due in April 2007.

A division bench of Justices Swatanter Kumar and H R Malhotra directed the Delhi Government to give the specific date of the notification of the constituencies according to the new Delimitation Committee report by February 8, the next date of hearing.

Senior Counsel K T S Tulsi, appearing for the petitioner, submitted that if the notification was not announced by February 15, the process for the election to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD) could not be held in the scheduled time.

In the meantime, the state election commission sought the direction of the court to dismiss the public suit, as such a petition could not filed by a politician.

On January 8, the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) had approached the High Court seeking direction to the authorities to conduct the MCD election by April 10, 2007, the date present council would end its term.

BJP leaders Subhash Arya, Vijendra Gupta and Arti Mehra in the petition alleged that the ruling Congress government led by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was planning to postpone the MCD election fearing wrath of the public due to demolition and sealing drives in the capital.
