Only Metro Rail can ease traffic load: railway official

Chennai, Feb 6 (UNI) The Metro Rail Project is inevitable in a country like India to cope up with the heavy load of passengers, a senior Railway official said today.

Inaugurating a national-level design and fabrication contest 'INNO-HAP''07', organised by the SAE Collegiate Club of the SRM School of Mechanical Engineering at the SRM University here, Southern Railway Additional General Manager R Ramanathan said Metro Rail would be the only mode of transport as buses would not be able to take much load in the coming years.

His remarks assumes significance at a time when the Tamil Nadu Government was mulling with the idea of introducing the project to cope with the increasing traffic.

''A stage will come when the buses would not be able to take that much load. Metro Rail is the only option that will carry any extent of load. It is envitable irrespective of the cost involved'', he added.
