One killed, ten injured in police firing in Umrer

Nagpur, Feb 6 (UNI) One person was killed and ten others injured when police today opened fire to disperse a violent mob, protesting the long hours of load shedding in Umrer, about 45 km from here.

The mob initially ransacked the local police station and office of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) this afternoon and later indulged in heavy stone pelting at the residence of the local Legislator, police said.

The ramaging mob also torched several vehicles, police said.

Police resorted to lathi-charge and burst tear-gas shells to control the situation. But as this did not have any effect, police opened fire, a top police official told UNI
