NCW urges state and Centre for more budget allocation

Shillong, Feb 6 (UNI) The National Commission for Women (NCW) has asked the Centre and the state for more budget allocation for uplift of the fair sex.

The budget allocations should be increased keeping in view the five important areas that needed to be looked into for the uplift of women like education, health, services and creation of job opportunities for women, NCW Chairperson Dr Girija Vyas told reporters here yesterday.

Dr Vyas also stressed the need to evolve a proper mechanism to check the implementation of various scheme towards uplift of women.

''In order to make the State Women Commissions (SCWs) more powerful, the NCW Chairperson said there was a need for creation of an effective mechanism to deliver the goods.

Dr Vyas also informed that several important bills like sexual harassment at the work place, compulsory registration of marriage Act, and many others related to uplift of women are still pending in Parliament.
