Maruti, Suzuki inaugurate car, two-wheeler units
Manesar (Haryana), Feb 6: Country's largest car maker Maruti Udyog Ltd and Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation inaugurated their fourth car assembling plant and a diesel engine and transmission plant besides Suzuki's two-wheeler plant here today.
The initial capacity of the assembling plant is one lakh cars per annum, which will be scaled up to three lakh units per year by 2010.
The unit, set up an investment of Rs 2,500 crore, will manufacture the company's Swift model besides its proposed new export model, expected to be launched in 2008-09.
The diesel engine and transmission plant of the companies' joint venture Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd (SPIL) has an initial capacity of one lakh diesel engines per annum, being scaled up to three lakh engines per year by 2010, at an outlay of Rs 2,500 crore.
The Gurgaon two-wheeler plant of Suzuki Motorcycle India -- a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation -- will have an annual capacity of one lakh units a year, expandable to two lakh vehicles a year.
