Lucknow University VC conferred Colonel's honorary rank

Lucknow, Feb 6 (UNI) Lucknow University (LU) Vice Chancellor Dr R P Singh was today conferred an honorary rank of the Colonel of the National Cadet Corps (NCC).

At a ceremony marked by tradition at LU, Dr Singh was conferred the Colonel's honorary rank.

The event began with welcome address by Lucknow NCC Commanding Officer Group Col K P S Khati.

In his address, Col Khati expressed his sincere appreciation for the support offered by LU in all endeavours that NCC had undertaken during 2006-07.

It was this untiring support and enthusiasm that had helped Lucknow NCC Group recently bag the 'Best Group Banner' conferred by UP Governor T V Rajeswar from amongst 11 competing groups of UP NCC Directorate.

In view of the exemplary support provided by the LU VC to NCC, the honorary rank -- bestowed by NCC Director General Lt Gen P S Choudhary -- was presented to Dr Singh.

Thanking NCC for the honour, Dr (Col) Singh stressed that organisations such as the NSS and NCC were doing yeoman service to the nation in so for as character building amongst the youth of the country was concerned.

''These organisations, besides inculcating a sense of discipline, helped the youth in being physical fit, mentally alert and most importantly helped foster spirit of nationalism and commitment to the country's cause.'' UNI
