Kashmiri businessman arrested for possessing Shahtoosh shawls

New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) Delhi police has arrested a Kashmiri businessman here under the Wildlife Protection Act for possessing banned Shahtoosh shawls.

Mohammad Yunus, a resident of Srinagar, was arrested from his Lajpat Nagar house, where the sleuths of the special cell recovered nine shahtoosh shawls, valued at lakhs of rupees.

The accused was arrested yesterday.

''Shahtoosh'' is wool derived from the rare Tibetan antelope, also called the Chiru. The Government has banned Shahtoosh to prevent the poaching of the animal and hence its extinction.
